Sheriff J. Kenneth Mitchell

Kenneth Mitchell has been a sheriff in Glasgow since 1985. He was educated at Paisley Grammar School and The University of Glasgow (LL.B.). He served his legal apprenticeship with Messrs. Stewarts Nicol MacCormick & Company in Glasgow and was admitted as a solicitor in 1972. He was a partner in Messrs Ross Harper & Murphy from 1975 until 1978.. He was admitted to the Faculty of Advocates in July 1979. He was appointed as a temporary sheriff in 1984.

He has served as a member of the Council of The Sheriffs’ Association and the Glasgow Sheriff Court Standing Advisory Committee. He has been a member of the National Council of Victim Support Scotland since 2001. He is a co-author of The Sheriffs’ Associations Criminal and Civil Bench Books. He has written a number of published articles and over the last twenty years has addressed many conferences and seminars on legal topics including children, civil procedure, criminal law and procedure, evidence, housing law, conduct of trials and proofs and sentencing.

He is married with one son. His leisure interests include walking with the family dog, keeping fit, soccer, baseball and film going.
